Netiquette

Netiquette is the short term for Internet Etiquette. This means that it is the behavior when you are online. We need to follow netiquette rules if we want to experience a wonderful time having an online conversation with others. We should be aware of what we are chatting with others. We should be sure that it can’t hurt others feeling when we are communicating with them. We should be friendly in others especially to new in online communicating or what we called “newbies”. Always remember that if you do unnecessary things online it can also make your personality to others look bad.

Netiquette or Online Etiquette is as follows:

1) No Shouting (TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS SHOUTING)
2) Do not use foul language
3) All races, sexes, religioins, sexualities, nationalities, ages and economic statuses are equal in that they do not exist in cyberspace.
4) Spelling and Grammar are of the utmost importance but you may use commonly accepted online abbreviations (LOL, ROFLMAO, TTYL)
5) Education gets preference over entertainment value (meaning that it is better online etiquette to teach someone something than to make fun of them or criticize)
6) No trolling (pretending to be part of an online community that you are not to get cheap thrills (sexual or otherwise))
7) No spamming fishing or marketing
8) No chain mail, pyramid marketing, or unwelcome promotions, threats or attempts to convert someone to any specific religion, ideology or belief system.
9) Personal conversations should be restricted to IM's and emails and should not take place in public formats (chatrooms, bulletin boards etc.)
10) Typing in alternate formats like Arabic, Chinese etc. where that format is not common is bad netiquette...
11) Constant harrassment or bad mouthing of Sysops and website workers or the sponsoring website itself is strictly forbidden... if you don't like the site, move on.
12) Any and all activities that are illegal in your real domain are to be avoided online as well.
13) Plagairism or copy-pasting is bad online ettiquette - if you don't have anything original to offer than log off.
14) Passing opinions on other people's discussions or ideas is not advised either... when web users want or need your opinion you will generally know.
15) It is always customary to introduce yourself in any new web domain before using the site like a regular.
16) Downloaded or uploaded files should be kept as small as possible for the convenience of other users.

 My Insights:

Internet etiquette or Netiquette is focused on proper Internet behavior. Netiquette should be practice so that we could gain internet behavior. People should not use Capital letters because it's a sign that you are shouting to that person. Abusive language or foul language should not be used specially when there's a kid because he/she might use it when using the internet.
